Dr. Chad Bergan grew up in Valley City, ND. He developed an interest in dentistry through influence from his parents and his college teammate on the NDSU track and cross country team, who is also a current dentist. Dr. Bergan enjoys working in an energetic environment where he’s learning something new every day. He is grateful to have the chance to serve people in our community.
Dr. Bergan earned his undergraduate degree in Zoology at North Dakota State University and then attended the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine where he earned his Dental Degree (DDS). He continues to invest numerous hours to continuing his education and learning advanced technology.
When he’s not practicing dentistry, Dr. Bergan enjoys spending time with his family at the lake. He is a sports fan and likes skiing, golfing, and playing softball and basketball.
Dr. Todd DeBates grew up in Stewartville, MN. He developed an interest in dentistry through the influence of his parents as well as a neighbor who was a dentist, Dr. Weinhold. Dr. DeBates earned his undergraduate degree in Biology at North Dakota State University and his dental degree (DDS) from the University of Nebraska Dental School. He continues to invest numerous hours to continuing his education and learning advanced technology.
When he’s not practicing dentistry, Dr. DeBates enjoys “hanging with the family,” golfing, fishing and gardening. He and his wife Deb have two children, Samantha and Micah.
Dr. Samuel, a Fargo native and graduate of the University of North Dakota, took an interest in dentistry after having the opportunity to shadow his family dentist, Dr. Thomas G. Fellman. Dr. Fellman, knowing Walter from an early age, entertained an opportunity upon completion of dental school to Walter. Over the next five years, things came together, and in October of 2010 Dr. Samuel joined Drs. Fellman and DeBates.
Dr. Samuel attended North Dakota State University his freshman year, then transferred to the University of North Dakota where he studied Aviation and then later attained his degree in Health Sciences. He went on to earn his Dental Degree (DDS) from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. Walter continues his dedication to the field of dentistry, utilizing microscopes as a regular part of his practice, and spending countless hours learning more and more about the latest techniques in Dentistry.
Dr. Samuel enjoys being active outdoors and competing in many sports including: riding horse, driving motorcycle, snowmobiling, snowboarding, hunting, and playing hockey.
Dr. Tom Spellman grew up in Westminster, CO, He found an interest in dentistry after his aunt, who is a physician, asked him to think about pursuing a future in healthcare. After spending three summers shadowing his childhood dentist, Dr. Chris Willard, he decided to pursue dentistry. Dr. Spellman attended Creighton University in Omaha, NE, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology before entering the Creighton University School of Dentistry.
Dr. Spellman enjoys working at South University Dental’s high-paced, energetic environment where he provides first-class dental care for the Fargo-Moorhead community. He has spent hundreds of hours working with the underprivileged, including spending five weeks serving patients in the Dominican Republic.
When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Spellman enjoys spending time with family, golfing, and anything related to his beloved Creighton Bluejays.
A longtime dentist at South University Dental, Dr. Tom Fellman has recently retired after more than 40 years of practicing dentistry. His exemplary leadership, tireless work ethic, relational personality and exceptional dental skills are missed by patients and co-workers alike at South University Dental Associates.
As a dentist who truly cared for his patients and loved his daily work, his decision to move onto the next chapter of his life was difficult. Dr. Fellman looks forward to exciting and active years of retirement ahead with his wife Kathy, four children (Jill, Julie, John, Jeff), and ten grandchildren. He anticipates spending abundant time at the lake, Costa Rica, and of course, following the NDSU Bison.
While Dr. Fellman no longer practices at South University Dental Associates , each of his patients can expect the same quality treatment, care and intentionality they have come to appreciate over the years. The majority of Dr. Fellman’s patients will be seen by Dr. Walter Samuel moving forward. Samuel is a five-year veteran of the practice at South University Dental.
